Driving Directions

The School of Medicine is on the Stanford campus in Palo Alto, California. San Francisco is to the north, and San Jose is to the south. Two main north-south freeways link us to San Francisco, San Jose, and their airports: Interstate 280 and US Highway 101. Shuttle and bus service to Stanford is available from nearby airports. A commuter rail line, Caltrain also connects the Peninsula. Stanford's free Marguerite Shuttle connects with Caltrain and downtown Palo Alto.

From the airports

The San Francisco Bay Area is served by three major international airports: San Francisco, San Jose, and Oakland.

From San Francisco Airport: Take US-101 SOUTH (toward San Jose) and follow the Highway 101 directions.

From San Jose Airport: Take US-101 NORTH (toward San Francisco) and follow the Highway 101 directions.

From Oakland Airport: Take I-880 SOUTH (toward San Jose) to CA-92 WEST (direction Half Moon Bay) to US-101 SOUTH (direction San Jose) and follow the Highway 101 directions.

On CalTrain

The Marguerite Shuttle Line X and Line Y offer frequent service between the Palo Alto Transit Center and the School of Medicine. Connections with Caltrain, VTA, SamTrans, and the Dumbarton Express can be made at the Palo Alto Transit Center. Line MC Limited, Line N, Line O, Line P, and Line SE offer limited service. Line V serves the California Avenue Caltrain station weekday mornings and evenings. The SMP line serves the Menlo Park Caltrain Station.

From the Highways

Directions from US 101: Take the University Avenue exit west (toward Palo Alto / Stanford). As you enter the gates to Stanford, University Avenue changes names to Palm Drive. Continue on Palm Drive to Arboretum Road, at the traffic light. Turn RIGHT on Arboretum. At the next light, turn LEFT on Quarry Road. See the following for directions to specific locations.

To the School of Medicine: Turn RIGHT from Quarry Road onto Campus Drive. The School of Medicine is on your right. Guest parking is available in the parking structure on the left side of Campus, at Roth Way.
